Short answer? YES! Long answer? It depends on who you are, but "micro weddings" are always a thing for the right couple! If you aren't sure if your wedding would be considered a microwedding, head over to my previous blog post, "Spot the Differences: Elopements, Micro Weddings, and Traditional Weddings" to get a little clarity. At the end of the day, a wedding is a wedding, regardless of the size or the scale of the celebration. Your union is uniquely your own, regardless of the number of people in attendance/there to witness your vows to one another.
What we're really talking about when we talk about Microwedding is, in actuality, more about the reception than anything else. Because a microwedding is a full wedding, just smaller than the "national average" and often during the week, there is a misconception that it's less work or not as big of a deal. But there are often just as many vendors, if not more, working on your microwedding.
If we want to get down to the nitty-gritty of it the ceremony is the ceremony - most of those costs are fixed.
Where you see the biggest impact of choosing a microwedding over a "regular" wedding is the reception!
Having a smaller wedding saves you on:
Table Flowers/Decor
Food (and the associated gratuity)
Bar Service
Invitations/Postage
Rental equipment (things like plates, linens, flatware, seating, etc)
Favors
Your fixed wedding costs (the things that don't change with guest count):
Wedding Planner
Site Fees / Venue Rentals
Officiant
Accommodations
DJ/ Entertainment
Photographer
Personal Attire
Personal Flowers
Personal Hair + Makeup
Wedding Rings
Videography
Ultimately, I don't want any couple to worry about if something is still "in" or "a thing" - your wedding day is about you and what feels good to you, regardless of trends. Celebrating your love, with your friends and family, or without, is a personal choice. So, yes, if you want a microwedding, it's still a thing!
